HISTORY


History – the important dates:
• XIII century – the origin of parish
• 1330 – first written record about Czersk
• 1584 – the first description of the oldest church in Czersk was printed
• 1772 – 1902 – Prussian sector of partitioned Poland
• 1827 – first stage-coaches travel through Czersk on the route from Berlin to Konigsberg
• 1873 – opening of the Berlin – Konigsberg Eastern Railway
• 1887 – origin of Hermann Schütt company – the present Klose Czersk Furniture Factory, beginning of furniture – wood industry development
• 1913 – termination of building of the presently existing parish church in Czersk
• 1914- 1918 – I World War period, about 50,000 prisoners of war, mainly Russians, pass through a camp near Łukowo.
• 29th January 1920 – return of Czersk to Poland; marching in of general Haller forces
• 1st July 1926 – conferment of civic rights to Czersk
• 1st September 1939-21st February 1945 – period of German occupation of Poland (persecution of Poles, executions of many people engaged in political and social work, activity of resistance movement
• 21st February 1945 – marching in of the Red Army, termination of German occupation of Poland
• 27th May 1990 – first, after the war, completely democratic elections of self-government in Czersk
• 1994 – 2002 – building of a new town centre (J.Ostrowski Street )
• 19th January 2001 – ceremony of opening of the Roman Bruski Sports Hall in Czersk
• since 1990 – continuous forming of modern infrastructure (water, gas, sewage systems, water-treatment plants in Czersk and Rytel, improvement of road conditions etc.)
