A few words about our „Little Homeland”

The commune of Czersk is situated in the south of Pomorskie province (wojewodztwo pomorskie), on the area of South-Pomeranian Lake District (Pojezierze Południowo-Pomorskie), in a region of Tuchola Woods (Bory Tucholskie) – the second biggest woodland area in Poland, after the Bialowieża Primaeval Forests (Puszcza Białowieska). The total area of commune amounts to 380 km, 60% of which is covered by forests. A few rivers flow through the commune, e.g. the Czerska Struga, Niechwaszcz, and, a little bigger the Wda and Brda (popular routes of national and international rallies and the Great Canal of Brda. There are also several lakes, the biggest of which is the Ostrowite lake, being at the same time best prepared for tourism and vacation time with its camping site and water equipment hire base. In the commune area numerous reserves of nature as well as monuments of nature have been demarcated. Woods, lakes, and rivers make that region a very interesting touristic attraction. Local people derive from three ethnic groups: Borowiacy(Borovians), Kaszubi (Kashubians) and Kociewiacy. The commune is inhabited by about 20,500 people, 9,500 of whom are residents of Czersk.
